Husband and Wife Head From Backyard Garden to Chelmsford Market

In Patch's latest Chelmsford Farmers Market vendor spotlight, we look at Foxbarn Farm.

If your vegetables from the Chelmsford Farmers Market remind you of something you'd pull out of your garden, there's a reason for that.

"We're big time gardeners, so we do everything the way you would do it in your backyard," said John Foster of Foxbarn Farm, who sells each week at the Chelmsford Farmers Market with his wife, Carol. "We've been doing markets for nine years just because it's fun and we enjoy meeting people here in Chelmsford and the other markets we do."

Foxbarn Farm, the latest in our video series of Chelmsford Farmers Market vendor spotlight videos, is based in Carlisle.

Foster said he enjoys bringing something to the Chelmsford community that residents can't get at large stores, beginning with vegetables that are picked no more than 24 hours before they're sold.

"Buying from the people who grow the vegetables, people can ask questions," said Foster. "You can't get that from your local supermarket because they're buying wholesale. So I think one of the nice things about buying local is getting it right from the people who have done production on the crops. They can tell you what's fresh, what's coming, what the problems are and what you're going to like. It's a good reason to buy fresh, and buy local."

To visit Foxbarn Farm and other vendors, you can head to the Chelmsford Farmers Market each Thursday from 2-6:30 p.m. on Town Common through the fall.
