Why talk about what could/should have been. What's done is done, we have the here and now and I can only pray that residents will at least get the ears of the developers to take a listen and maybe they will consider our needs/desires. But, as Rob says, very important, make it look good!

Do you realize that the 3 places you mention are expensive for what I call "token" cupcakes ... cheaper to bake my own. And those are not the bakeries Irene and I are hoping for ... "fluff" would never be found in an Italian Bakery, it would have more substance than just looks. True, may be expensive as well, but we'd get value for our dollars.

My dream too Irene. Have been begging for it in my comments since the first post about Aubuchon. I simply cannot believe that we can't get a truly decent loaf of crusty, lite and chewy Italian bread, have to "import" it from towns close to Boston. Romano's bakery in Brown's corner sells fairly good Italian cookies, pastries and bread but why should we need to trek to Billerica? In my humble opinion, a good food place is really needed in this town, not the supermarket type. If we talk about Panera, I'm OK with that, but their bread that they call "Italian" is nothing more than a heavy, gummy blob in my opinion. I really want an old-fashioned grocery store and if that, combined with an Elegant Farmer in an adjacent space, would really make my day. I do agree with Rob C ... tear the place down, make it look good, fill it with decent retailers (sorry, Rob, not another fitness joint), and consider the needs of our community, but it's all too true, we are not Concord or Lexington. Someone from So. Chelmsford mentioned a need for a closer grocery. I'm for that since I live close to the area and it is a nuisance to travel across town for just a container of milk or juice or sandwich bread. In the end, we will have little to say and can only hope for the best.

I couldn't agree more! And for all the talk by the Summer St. Group about listening to Chelmsford's residents about what to put in that space, I drove by it yesterday and guess what? A finger/toe nail place, and a sign in the still open space saying "Fitness Center coming soon." What the heck? How many do we need here and how will one survive right across the road in the S&S space? Beats me ... will lead again to another vacancy in either one of the spots if you ask me. So much for respecting and understanding the wishes and needs of Chelmsford residents.

Got it Tom. I, as you may be aware, am never afraid to speak my mind about an issue of interest to me so I appreciate all who are brave enough to do the same, tho we often differ in our opinions. Makes for great discussions ... btw, I enjoy your show!

ReplyOff topic, I know Tom ... want to thank you for your call and sorry I was not available. In answer to your question, I did not get feedback from Patch about your response to my question, which is unusual, they are good about emailing me when a comment is made on a thread in which I've commented upon. My ? is just a matter of personal curiosity so I hope you are not thinking I am criticizing. Last, I hope to make the coffee but have a hectic schedule on the 23rd, so may not make it. Too bad for me ... I'm always grateful for a free cuppa and would like to say hey/
