Matt Hanson Elected BOS Chairman

Pat Wojtas elected vice chairman; Janet Askenburg elected clerk.

After collecting 2,084 votes in Tuesday’s election, Matt Hanson was elected chairman of the Chelmsford Board of Selectmen during its brief meeting on Wednesday evening. “We did it! Thank you to everyone who supported my re-election campaign! I am looking forward to representing you for another three years,” Hanson said via his Twitter account. According to Hanson’s website, his goals in his next term include securing improvements to Vinal Square and Chelmsford Center, overseeing of a new fire station and DPW facility, and pursuing tax relief, recreational space and historic preservation opportunities. Matt or Janet would have been the best choice because they have the least tenure with the other town officials. Matt, don't be afraid to question (strongly) the ideas of other town officials. Paul Cohen doesn't deserve the glowing reviews you have given him in the past, and I think you know that. PHOTOS: Candidates Celebrate After Polls Close

Many town incumbents hold onto their seats; the fire station question passes by a narrow margin.

On a night when the fire station question passed by 297 votes, incumbents for Board of Selectmen George Dixon and Pat Wojtas held onto their seats. Nick DeSilvio also fended off a write-in campaign from Barbara Skaar for a seat on the School Committee. The town saw average polling numbers across the board, and candidates and residents met at Princeton Station some time after the polls closed to celebrate election wins.
