Double-Overtime Victory Moves Lions Girls Soccer To Next Round

Chelmsford beats Newton North, 4-3.

After a heart-pounding double overtime and a last-second goal, the Chelmsford High Lions bounced the seventh-seeded Newton North Tigers from the Div. 1 North Sectional tournament last night. The final score was 4-3. The Tigers end their season at 14-4-2 while the Lions improve to 13-5-3 and move on to the semifinals where they will play No. 14 North Andover (12-4-4). “Dizzy,” Lions coach Anne Marinaro said she felt after the game. “I’m so proud of these girls. They haven’t made the state tournament in six years. We’ve played the top teams. We had a double-overtime p[enalty] k[ick] with Lincoln-Sudbury, who is number two. Chelmsford High Girls Soccer Moves On in Tournament

The girls beat Lincoln-Sudbury and move on to Newton North.

The following was submitted to Chelmsford Patch. The Chelmsford Lady Lions soccer team advanced in the Mass state tournament with a hard fought 1-0 win against the No. 2 seed Lincoln-Sudbury team. The Lions (seeded No. 15) will next travel to Newton to play the No. 7 seed Newton North team tomorrow at 2 p.m. The game was tied after regulation and two overtime periods and it all came down to penalty kicks. Senior Megan Hanna, sophomore Rachel Hanna and freshman Kayla Loycano all buried their kicks to gain the victory. It was a complete team effort to seal the victory but playing well were mid-fielder Michelle Chernaik , striker Megan Hanna and Kayla Loycano man marked Lincoln's outstanding striker holding her to no shots on net. CHS Girls Soccer Looks to Restore the Roar

The Chelmsford High School girls soccer team shut out Lowell on Wednesday night 4-0.

The Chelmsford High School girls soccer team improved their overall record to 3-1-2 on Wednesday night as they defeated the visiting Lowell Red Raiders 4-0. The Lady Lions scored all four of their goals in a first half attack as they controlled the ball possession all night and dominated their fellow MVC counterpart. Captain Meg Hanna got the scoring started for the Lions at the 24:24 mark in the first half as she used her speed to beat a Lowell defender to a pass and found the back of the net. Michelle Materna scored the second goal on the prettiest score of the night as she hustled to a crossing pass, turned and placed a perfect shot over the outstretched arms of Lowell goalkeeper Julie Ramirez.
