State Police Chase Suspected Bank Robber Through 495 in Chelmsford

The suspect was wanted in relation to a bank robbery in Lawrence

  Massachusetts State Police released a statement today that a state trooper pursued a suspect from a Lawrence bank robbery through Chelmsford on 495 earlier today. At approximately 10:15 a.m., Lawrence Police asked other law enforcement agencies to be on the look out for a Ford Explorer operated by George Melendez, 46, of Lowell for alleged bank robbery. The vehicle was spotted heading south on 495 in Lowell and did not stop, leading to a six mile chase. There were no reported injuries and no property damage as a result of the pursuit and arrest. Lawrence Police are continuing investigation into the incident this morning that led to the charges.

Somerville Man Runs Sobriety Checkpoint, Wrecks Car in Chelmsford

Suspect nearly struck State Troopers while running checkpoint.

A Somerville man faces a long list of charges after allegedly running a State Police sobriety checkpoint in Lowell and then wrecking his car in downtown Chelmsford early Saturday morning. Thomas Leedberg, 25, is charged with OUI-liquor (2nd offense), assault with a dangerous weapon (a car), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and other motor vehicle violations, according to a State Police spokesman. He is expected to be arraigned Monday in Lowell District Court. According to a State Police report, the incident began around 1:25 a.m., when Leedberg approached a sobriety checkpoint established by State Police on Thorndike Road. Leedberg allegedly slowed down and entered the checkpoint area, then abruptly picked up speed and fled …
