The Board of Selectmen voted to take action on the issue of a dangerous dog at 42 Bridge St. during next Monday's meeting, following a lack of actions from the owner after meetings on the issue in February and April.
As concerns by neighbors mount, the Board of Selectmen weighed the options on a dangerous dog and her hard-to-reach owner on Monday night. The issue of Katie, a declared dangerous German shepard owned by Valerie Kopacz of 42 Bridge St., has been before the board since February, where there was a lengthy discussion on installation of a fence along with a vote to keep the dog muzzled and restrained whenever outdoors. Kopacz did not appear for a follow up in April before the board, and the fact that she did not appear on Monday led James Lane to speak fervently against her request to delay the issue again until June. He made a motion to deny the delay and also force Kopacz to build the fence within 14 days or see her dog face euthanization…

The current chairwoman of the School Committee took out papers on Monday, bringing the field up to five.
On Monday morning, School Committee chairwoman Janet Askenburg took out nomination papers to run for the Board of Selectmen, bringing the number of candidates back up to five. The race had five candidates after Pat Maloney entered the race, but had dropped to four after newcomer Louis Marino said he would not return his nomination papers. "I am proud to announce my candidacy for the Chelmsford Board of Selectmen," said Askenburg in a released statement.. A look at what selectmen will discuss tonight.
Selectmen will approve the appointment of a new Council on Aging Director and member of the Council on Aging at their meeting tonight. Town Manager Paul Cohen will suggest two people to fill those posts. Council on Aging Director Diana Ryder will retire at the end of the fiscal year. Cohen will also announce that the town has won a grant from the Massachusetts Downtown Initiative Technical Assistance (MDI) Program, which will provide up to $10,000 worth of consultant services to assist with a housing study for the town center. Selectmen will also hear a status report from the Chelmsford Water District. A look at what selectmen will be discussing tonight.
Selectmen tonight will vote on whether or not to recommend a number of articles at Town Meeting, including the proposed new center fire station. At their last meeting, selectmen decided to back a plan to pay for the next phase of the new Department of Public Works project on Alpha Road. Selectmen will also assign a board representative to the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments and discuss their own liaison assignments for the coming year.

Selectmen tonight will discuss the next phase of the Alpha Road Department of Public Works project. The town will now look to finishing the interior of the building, including office space and work/shop areas. Selectmen will also award a bid for paving the parking lot at North Town Hall. Of the nine bids the town received, Onyx Corp. was the low bidder at $105,000 for all the work, including constructing the parking lot, drainage, and paving. Town Manager Paul Cohen said he expects the work to be done by June. The town will also hold a public input session on the fire station on April 17 and 7 p.m. at the Senior Center. Selectmen last night responded to an alleged Open Meeting Law violation and heard about the updated fire station proposal and related criticisms. Bob Joyce, who filed that complaint, spoke in the early open session. He said that while he agrees that the town needs a new center fire station, he disagrees with how the process has been handled recently, as outlined in his complaint filed with the attorney general. "Not that he has to, but I do wish the town manager had told me about the meeting, since I've been asking for such a meeting for weeks," said Joyce. Did you miss Monday night's Board of Selectmen meeting? Here are five things you missed. 1. Bob Joyce expressed concerns about fire station. During open session, Joyce, who serves on the Planning Board, said he "took exception" to the notion that because debt from the sewer project is dwindling "(the town) should replace it with new debt (for a fire station) that isn't approved by voters." Joyce suggested putting a non-binding vote on the ballot this spring about the fire station. Selectmen discussed whether the committee should be comprised of representative from each major town board and committee and how many resident representatives will be on the board. Selectman Jim Lane suggested a committee of nine members, with possibly one representative from the Conservation Commission, one from the Planning Board, one from the Historical Commission and one from the Affordable Housing Committee.
