"Parker's Got Talent" is Tonight

About 50 performers will take the stage in acts ranging from singing and dancing to other talents.

Seventeen total acts will take the stage at McCarthy Auditorium Saturday night as Parker Middle School hosts its second annual Parker’s Got Talent. “It’s just basically kids throughout Parker…it’s a non-competitive show. And it's hosted by Jeff Parks who is our assistant principal,” said Tara Trainor, a sixth-grade language arts teacher who is coordinating the show with fellow teacher Jen Salmon and parent Barbara Skaar. “(Skaar) actually started the show…it’s mostly through her idea that the show came about,” said Trainor. The Parker event will consist of about 50 students in various acts including singing and dancing, as well as other talents. McCarthy Takes Audiences to "Wonderland"

McCarthy's "Alice and Wonderland Junior" will be tonight and tomorrow night at the school's auditorium.

A cast of about 50 McCarthy Middle School students will take the school’s auditorium stage Friday and Saturday in its performance of “Alice and Wonderland, Junior.” The musical, based upon the 1951 Disney animated movie and Lewis Carroll’s original novels, was directed by sixth grade teachers Mary Brockmyre-Martin and Kathryn Chamberlain, who stage a production each year as an after-school student activity. “This is my seventh play, I think Kathryn has done for or five with me,” said Brockmyre-Martin, whose prior experience before McCarthy included directing college plays and television work on WGBH. The school’s musical productions, Brockmyre-Martin explained, are the culmination of a process going back to the early school year, with …

"Historical Perspectives" Come Alive With Ben Franklin

McCarthy Middle School fifth graders enjoyed a one-man show on Benjamin Franklin's life.

To simulate his experiments with a kite, Benjamin Franklin rapidly turned the crank on his  Van de Graaff generator, holding a ball on a rod close by. A visible spark shot between the two devices.   "Fascinating! Do you want to see that again?" he asked. "Yes!" the audience of McCarthy Middle School fifth graders shouted in unison. This energetic scene summarized the tone for Wednesday morning's enrichment program at the school's auditorium, as actor Joseph Kidawski immersed the students in a one-man portrayal of the life of the famous American founding father and inventor. Kidawski, an actor for Historical Perspectives for Children, used a variety of costumes, props, and slides to convey Franklin's life and achievements as a child and …

McCarthy and Parker students will have a special screening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" Saturday morning.

McCarthy and Parker Middle School students and their families are going to experience a special screening of one of the fall's hottest movies this weekend. A McCarthy PTO and Parker Student Council joint fundraiser, done in cooperation with Showcase Cinemas Lowell, will host a free screening of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1" on Saturday morning at the theater. "Harry Potter is such a phenomenon and to do this with just kids from Chelmsford and have our own theater and time is really great," said McCarthy parent volunteer Karen DeChiara. DeChiara brought the idea to PTO Vice-President Amy Regan around the time of the October PTO meeting, remembering the example of a similar event that occurred at the Westlands Elementary …
