Four turnovers key the victory as Chelmsford High football team halts a four-game skid.
Chelsmford High linebacker Matt Rabbito would be the first one to admit that his senior season hasn't gone quite as well as he and the rest of the Lions' defense had hoped it would. Chelmsford entered the season as the defending Merrimack Valley Conference Division 1 champion, and started the year with a run of four straight victories before a rash of injuries and three last-minute losses turned optimism into frustration for the Lions. But on a rainy night in Malden on Friday, the disappointment of the past month was washed away for at least one week, as the CHS defense came up with its best performance of the season and the Lions throttled host Malden High, 24-8. "It's been a real tough year for us," said Rabbito, a senior tri-captain who…

Chelmsford High football team remains undefeated as Jeff D'Auria rushes for 295 yards and four touchdowns.
The football gods set a trap for the Chelmsford High football team Saturday evening, but Jeff D'Auria and the CHS Lions refused to get caught in the snare. D'Auria, a junior running back who had only seen spot duty over the past two weeks (10 carries for 71 yards in the last two games combined) exploded for a career-high 295 yards and four touchdowns, helping Chelmsford hold off upset-minded Dracut High, 35-27, at Simonian Alumni Stadium. D'Auria's remarkable night allowed the Lions to overcome the loss of starting quarterback Bobby Sullivan, who broke his left wrist in the game's second quarter, and improve their record to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the Merrimack Valley Conference. "Jeff had a great game," said Chelmsford coach Bruce Rich. "He's…

Chelmsford High football team tops Lawrence, 36-20, in MVC opener.
The Chelmsford High football team has a brand new look this fall, but so far, the results have been pretty much the same. The Lions, who went 8-0 in Merrimack Valley Conference play and captured the MVC Division 1 championship in 2011, raised their 2012 record to 3-0 with a 36-20 win over Lawrence Friday night. But this year, instead of hopping on the back of running back Eddie Sheridan (24 touchdowns in 2011), the Lions appear to be lining up behind the passing arm of senior quarterback Bobby Sullivan. Sullivan, who spent his junior year serving as Cody Emanouil's understudy, completed 11-of-18 passes for 134 yards and three touchdowns in leading Chelmsford to a convincing win in its MVC opener at Lawrence's Veteran's Memorial Stadium …

Junior Meghan Rich and the Lions are 2-0 so far this season, after her impressive no hitter last week.
Junior Megan Rich, a standout pitcher on the softball team, has gotten off to a great start this season. Currently, the team is undefeated, and no one on an opposing team has managed to get on base when hitting against her. A versatile player, Rich has proven herself invaluable to the success of the Lions this year, after just two games. In the Lions season opener against Westford last week, Meghan threw a no hitter. Last Friday, Rich effectively played first base, as the Lions improved their record to 2-0. “I’m not a fast pitcher, I throw a lot of junk pitching, and I’ve been working at it really hard for a long time,” said Meghan Rich. “She’s a junk pitcher, meaning she can throw the ball in any direction,” said Bruce Rich, Meghan’s …

Chelmsford wrestlers eliminated by St. John's in 35-34 quarterfinal contest.
Home didn’t prove to be so sweet for Chelmsford wrestling as the host Lions fell 35-34 to St. John’s Prep Eagles in the Division I North Dual Meet Sectionals on Saturday. Chelmsford earned a shot at the Eagles in the quarterfinals thanks to a 55-18 victory over Acton-Boxborough in early morning action, and it appeared that they continue their momentum, getting early pins from 215 pounder Jared Ayotte and 103 pounder Jake Ahern. Between the pins and decision victories from heavyweight Lue Ferrer, 119-pounder Josh Abueta and 125-pounder James Chasen, the Lions built up an early 22-6 lead, but couldn’t hold on as the Eagles stormed back to take six matches in a row from the 135 to 160 pound weight classes. The Lions ended the contest with a …
