Weekend Agenda: An Outdoor Movie, Cheer on the Team or Visit the Local State Park

Chelmsford Police Athletic League Movie Night: Start the weekend off just a little early at the Annual Free Movie Night sponsored by the Chelmsford Police Athletic League. This family-fun evening will be held tonight, Thursday, August 29, at the Chelmsford High Track. The movie, "Madagascar 3," starts after dark, but residents are asked to come at 7 p.m and enjoy some hot dogs, ice cream, drinks and popcorn. Bring a blanket and close out the summer with the family and Chelmsford neighbors. A fun time will be had by all!

Cheer for the Local Team: The Chelmsford High School boys varsity football schedule won't officially start until next weekend, but show your support and take a peek at the new lineup Saturday, August 31, 10 a.m., at Simonian Stadium. Chelmsford is hosting Leominster, Methuen and Salem High Schools. Go Lions!

Football not your thing? On Sunday, September 1, 10 a.m., the Royal Rooters Baseball League will be hosting Granitville Baseball.

Live Irish-American Band Performance: Solas, the popular Irish-American band is touring the country and making a stop at the Lowell Summer Music Series. The concert will be held Saturday, August 31, 7:30 p.m., at Boarding House Park at French and John Streets, 40 French St., Lowell. Tickets are $29 in advance, $35 day of the concert. Bring a blanket, low sand chair or lawn chair. Children age 12 and under are admitted free. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved diagonally across the street to the Lowell High School Auditorium at 50 French Street. The Auditorium is air conditioned and has a capacity of 1,500. Take to the Lanes, Chelmsford Bowling Lanes: Need a break from the outdoors? Bring the entire family for that classic family activity that never goes out of style. The North Chelmsford Duckpin Bowling Lanes is open Saturday and Sunday this weekend, from 1 p.m., for open bowling. You can even reserve a lane 24-48 hours in advance by calling 978-251-8108. North Chelmsford Duckpin Bowling Lanes are located at 22 Vinal Sq.

Great Brook Farm State Park: Summer is not over yet. Take this weekend to explore a local gem with more than 20 miles of trails available for walkers, hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. This weekend, there are also 'Smart Barn' tours at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Great Brook Farm State Park is located just over the Chelmsford border at 984 Lowell St., in Carlisle.
