Chelmsford Expected to Get a Few Inches This Weekend

The first major snowstorm of the season will hit the Chelmsford area on Saturday and into Sunday.

A winter storm watch will be in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. Heavy snowfall is expected Saturday night and into Sunday.

The snow will mix with sleet and freezing rain and forecasters are predicting the snowfall will be topped with ice.

The National Weather Service warns that roads will become dangerous late Saturday as the snow picks up. Sleet and freezing rain may also make the roads slick.

How much snow are we getting? Here are the latest predictions for the weekend by multiple news sources as of 8 a.m. Friday:


National Weather Service - Minor snow accumulations on Saturday, with accumulations of around 7 inches on Sunday, mainly in the late morning.

Accuweather - The snow will begin late on Saturday with approximately 7 inches before midnight and then another few on Sunday before tapering off around noon.

Weather Channel - 4 to 6 inches on Saturday, and more on Sunday, clearing by evening.
