Three Chelmsford Teams Ready to Begin Playoff Action

Chelmsford volleyball, softball and baseball get their postseason runs underway this week.

A trio of Chelmsford spring sports teams are among the squads around the state who will open their playoff runs with games over the upcoming days.

The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its baseball and softball brackets on Tuesday and the boys volleyball team was scheduled to open its own tournament as the No. 1 seed on Tuesday night.

After a first round by, the Lions volleyball team was slated to take on Haverhill at home in the North Division 1 playoffs at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. 

The winner of that match will face either Lawrence or Andover in the bracket semifinal. That match is scheduled to take place on Friday at 7 p.m. at an undetermined location.

Chelmsford baseball earned the No. 11 seed in the North Division 1 postseason thanks to a record of 10-10 in the regular season. The Lions will travel to face Acton-Boxboro, the No. 6 seed, in a contest scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m.

If Chelmsford can earn a victory in that tilt, they will take on either Billerica or Everett in the quarterfinal.

The Lady Lions softball team enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed in the North Division 1 playoffs. They earned a preliminary round bye and await the winner of Waltham versus Central Catholic in the first round. That contest is scheduled for Sunday.
