Chelmsford EM 19 -  Acton Boxborough 0

The early action in the first half revealed two well matched, well coached teams, each with two possessions, no turnovers, sound tackling, and no scoring.  However, a first down play of 20+ yards in each of Chelmsford’s possessions on runs by Bobby Tower and Ryan Dandaraw shifted the field position in Chelmsford’s favor.  The Chelmsford defense, which swarmed to the ball all day, forced Acton to turn the ball over on downs at their own 36 yard line.  The Chelmsford Offense then capitalized on the short field with a 5 play drive capped by a 27 yard Bobby Tower TD scamper on the second well executed reverse play of the day.  The failed point after attempt was the last play of the first half.

The Cougar defense carried the momentum into the second half by living in the Colonial’s backfield, forcing a 4 and out on gang tackles and solo tackles for a loss made by Sujan Natarajan and Nick Bortone.  The offense took over on the AB 43 yard line and executed a 9 play scoring drive featuring runs by Dandaraw, Devin Dejesus, and Collin Reid and finished off by a Reid quarterback keeper up the middle.  Bruce Linstad rambled in for the successful point after, a credit to the work of Ryan Ward, Matthew Gale and Nathaniel Rose with holding the offensive line and opening the holes and creating the edges.

After another 4 and out and short field created by the Cougar defense, the offense continued the deceptive ground attack with a 6 play 42 yard drive capped by another cleanly executed reverse play resulting in Tower streaking down the right side for a 35 yard TD run.

On the final AB possession the Cougar D featuring Nathan Bernier, Jaydon Lapointe, Michael Hennessey  showed a bend, but don’t break resiliency after a good AB kick return and a 15 yard run placed their backs to the goal line.  They held AB to short or no gain over the next three plays until time expired.

The Chelmsford E Cheering Squad including Solenn Rockwood, Jillian Schena and Taylor Kiggins experienced and contributed to the excitement of a well executed Cougar victory.
