Chelmsford Football Coach Challenging Suspension

The suspension came from a verbal altercation between the coach and a referee after a controversial late-game penalty.

The Lowell Sun reports that Chelmsford High School football coach Bruce Rich is challenging a suspension he received after verbally challenging an official in his team's 14-13 loss against Lowell on Friday.

His suspension came due to frustration over a penalty which overturned a touchdown that would have given the Lions the game with 5.5 seconds left.

If the suspension is not overturned, assistant coach Tom Sousa will head the team this week as they face Central Catholic, a game which could be crucial to Chelmsford's playoff hopes.
