What Should Be Done With The North Road Fire Station?

With the new fire station coming soon to Billerica Road, the town's central fire station will soon be abandoned. What should its future be?

Time's running out for the Fire Station on North Road, but now its future use is in doubt.

Originally, it was considered as a site for the new home of the Dutton House, which the Library Trustees hope will be removed from its current location while also being preserved.

That plan had the Dutton House moving to the North Road Fire Station site and serving as the new home of the Chelmsford Housing Authority, a plan that has recently become infeasible.

As the Selectmen attempt to figure out what should be done with the Dutton House, they also face a question of what to do with the old North Road Station and today we ask you that question as well.

Unlike the Dutton House, which is considered a historical property, demolition of the building could be done without a significant delay. Should the building be razed and sold to a private entity or replaced with a new town building? Could the land supplement parkland near 9 North Road? Could a use be found for the current building?
