Tsongas Cites Frustration on Anniversary of Gulf Oil Spill Report

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell), voiced frustration that recommended reforms had not been taken following the 2010 spill that impacted the Gulf of Mexico region.

Chelmsford’s member of Congress raised concerns on Friday regarding the 2010 BP Oil Spill on the three-year anniversary of a report relating to its economic impact on the Gulf of Mexico.

Congresswoman Niki Tsongas (D-Lowell), noted that the report gave Congress a D+ on their response to the disaster and noted that many recommended legislative reforms have still not taken place.

“Domestic oil production is at a 20 year high, and natural gas production is at an all-time high in the United States,” said Tsongas. “We should be making sure that the current oil production boom occurs in a manner that protects workers, coastal communities, and the environment.”

Tsongas is a cosponsor of the Offshore Energy Safety and Technology Improvements Act.

The bill, which was introduced referred to the House Subcommitee on Energy this week, aims to promote safer offshore drilling technologies.

Tsongas is a sad reminder that her late husband was intelligent. (I knew the man.) Massachusetts has no oil production workers. Nikki would not recognize one if we did. National oil and gas production is up, in spite of her boss Obama's efforts to suppress it. Nikki, Nikki, talk to us about your learned recommendation on approval of the Keystone pipeline.
Tyler Jozefowicz January 10, 2014 at 11:34 PM
The KeystoneXL pipe line is a waste. It takes shale from coal tars in Canada( high cost oil), environmentally disasterous, and transports them through the US to the Gulf for overseas refinement. We get nothing, the jobs are limited and temporary. The winners are the Koch Brothers and another Texas oil tycoon whose name escapes me . They're pushing it; one owns 10,000 acres in Canada and there is nothing in it for the United States ; nothing. there is no guarantee that we will get any of the oil and if we do it will be high priced. China is thinking of investing in a pipeline going west through Canada . Nikki knows what she is doing here.

Niki Tsongas [America's 3rd stupidest Congresswoman] epitomizes all that is wrong with Massachusetts voters. They elected, then re-elected a truly STUPID empty pants suit on the basis of her last name [we do that with the Kennedys too], and wonder why nothing happens. NOBODY in Congress has ANY respect for her; – she's just another left-wing Pelosi bobble-head puppet from the MoonBat state. The ONLY people less informed than Niki are her supporters who keep misspelling her name.
Tara Dactyl January 11, 2014 at 01:44 PM
Having some business involvement with the Canadian oil sands I can assure you that you have zero credibility on the subject. No need to discredit your points here Tyler, as you will dodge the issue or change the subject. Try picking a topic that you have knowledge of, and perhaps your readers do not.
Tyler Jozefowicz January 11, 2014 at 02:20 PM
Enlighten everyone then . Get beyond the insult stage. I don't mind, but another poster here seems to think, people who misspell 'Niki" are less informed. You might want to correct your 3 misspellings ( " Nikki") in your first post for his unbiased benefit.
Iron Mike January 12, 2014 at 10:09 AM
Tsongas wants to DEFLECT your attention to the Deepwater Horizon spill – an event 3½ years ago... BUT, let's ask her about the DECEMBER 2013 EMPLOYMENT NUMBERS, - or the 3½ years Obama had to build a WEBSITE...for $650 MILLION DOLLARS.... OR, since she sits on the Military Affairs committee – ask her how did Obama let IRAQ fall into al Qaeda hands, - after so much American blood spilled to liberate it. FACT IS: Obama and Tsongas are BOTH incompetent socialist dreamers.
Al January 12, 2014 at 10:25 AM
FACT: ALL CAPS WINS ARGUMENTS. smaller fact: just because we invaded Iraq didn't mean we could "win" in any long term sense. You complain about sending money overseas and then claim you wanted to win there which would have been ten years more, another trillion and thousands of dead. Then again if you are wiling to send soldiers to die because you want to protect Muslims from other Muslims then that's you right as a "libertarian" or whatever you claim to be (since the GOP destroyed its brand and nobody wants to be associated with it). Either way, it's the same noise with you three all day long, you ought to get a room and stop polluting this space with knee jerk grade school insults masquerading as debate. You want to talk about the impact on a community these projects can have? Go see Charleston West Virginia today for just this weeks example *END COMMUNICATION*
Iron Mike January 12, 2014 at 10:41 AM
Gee, I'm sorry, - did you take offense at something I wrote? Or were you and Tsongas busy packing a truck with Poland Springs for West Virginia? Is Obama going there to help hand out bottled water? My >point< is that Niki Tsongas is a stupid socialist dreamer who ignores our Constitution, and who willingly provided cover for Obama's evil schemes and his ineptness.
Al January 12, 2014 at 11:37 AM
I think the most disagreeable thing about this sewing circle is that not a single event can pass without warranting attachment to some national or global issue. Everything causes you to go "meta" - sometimes a scumbag stealing a pack of smokes from a Mobil station is just that...not a forum to debate immigration or the breakdown of social fabric or how [insert party] is the cause of all the worlds ills. How do you live your life like this? More importantly how can anyone live with someone like that?
Andrew Sylvia (Editor) January 12, 2014 at 11:39 AM
To be fair, when I started the Tsgonas/3rd District beat, I put in Nikki instead of Niki once or twice by accident. Her full first name is Nicola.
Iron Mike January 12, 2014 at 11:44 AM
As Tip O'Neill once famously said, “All politics is local!” What Tsongas does by ignoring her Oath and obeying Pelosi and Obama effects my life – and my kids' lives. I want such traitors rotting in prison, not rotting out our Republic.
resident January 12, 2014 at 03:18 PM
hey, Iron Mike. It's people like you that allow Massachusetts to continue being dominated by Democrats. I personally thank you . Please keep posting. You can easily dissuade anyone from joining your 'party'.
Iron Mike January 12, 2014 at 05:34 PM
>> “It's people like you” Could you be a little more explicit and precise? FYI, I don't have much use for the Republican Party here - they've become infiltrated... I just want our elected leaders to honor our Constitution, tell the truth, and stop spending on stuff that isn't in the Constitution. Your problem with that is...?
Tara Dactyl January 12, 2014 at 07:04 PM
Niki Tsongas, like many Massachusetts liberals, probably believes gasoline originates at the gas pump, electricity is produced in the wall outlet, and building materials are borne in the lumberyard warehouse. It is doubtful she has ever seen, much less set foot in, an oil refinery, power plant or copper mine.
Iron Mike January 12, 2014 at 08:30 PM
She was married to Paul, - she's been on a college campus, lives with Jim O'Brien in Charlestown, - and gone purse-shopping with Nancy Pelosi in Rome. Does that count?
John Doe January 12, 2014 at 09:38 PM
Aww take it easy on ol' Niki...after all, shes a woman! Im just saying that to get you guys ready for all the times youre going to hear it along the way to Hillary Clinton becoming president. The repubs have ZERO shot at winning the presidency if the election were held today. And barring the media actually reporting the illegal things Obama does (which we all know isnt Going to happen), repubs ain't gonna have much shot in 2016 either. But hopefully instead of being total idiots and staying home like they did in 2012 (I think stupid repubs did more to elect obama then the dems did) they will recognize how important midterms are and also recognize that ANY republican (including a RINO) is going to be better than Hillary Clinton. For the love of god Republicans, please understand that the 2014 midterms are the most important election in your lifetime other than 2012. Learn from your mistakes and get out and vote, even if youre not in love with the candidate.
resident January 12, 2014 at 10:26 PM
Iron Mike, Sounds like you have a crush on her
John Doe January 13, 2014 at 08:02 AM
Ok, lets also take it easy on the perverts...we all have our vices ;-)

May we wonder whether Niki will speak out about the explosive news just breaking tonight. Declassified documents show Obama and others around him lied about the Benghazi attack, on the eve of his re-election. Niki, it's time to man up!
Tom Gilroy January 13, 2014 at 09:40 PM
While Mike needs no one to defend him, he is a true patriot, done more to help elect candidates than anyone I know, works very diligently on his blog and always gets it right. Niki, on the other hand, because of her disdain for the constitution, is no patriot, she works very hard for the Dem leadership, but does not respect our veterans, but she does pander to the entitlement crowd. With respect to energy it's more rules and regulations, more big government, that what she wants. We gave the resources to be totally energy independent, but she and Obama will have nothing to do with that.
Tara Dactyl January 14, 2014 at 10:28 PM
Tom, Iron Mike will do fine. Niki, the Gimme Gal caters to the Gimme Guys, and the rest of the Gimme Group, plus the College for Lifers so prevalent here. In other news, in her battle to be meaningful in the Governor's race, Marsha Coakley calls for a big increase in the minimum wage in Massachusetts. If it is such a good idea, why hasn't it been raised to $100 per hour years ago? Why not eliminate 'income inequality' in our time?
Iron Mike January 14, 2014 at 11:00 PM
The “Raise the Minimum” game is just that – a game to win some short-term votes. Raising the minimum wage is yet another racist trick by Democrats – because if it happens many fewer young Black and Hispanic youths will ever get entry-level jobs. Instead they're remain dependent on government handouts – controlled of course by the kind of Democratic appointees like Olga Roche and SEIU 509 – those 17,000 state employees who [sometimes] work for her in the MassDCF.
Tyler Jozefowicz January 15, 2014 at 11:06 AM
From Gulf Oil spill to Minimum Wage. Sounds like I'm at a Tea Party Meeting with three people in the room talking gibberish as usual. take it over to a local right wing blog site , so the normal people here can have some peace.
Iron Mike January 15, 2014 at 11:19 AM
Why do the self-appointed statists always have to decide what is 'normal'?
Aron Levy January 15, 2014 at 12:26 PM
'Statists?' What are you, a nineteen year old Paultard? Get lost. Seriously. FreeRepublic misses you.
robbinsfarm January 16, 2014 at 02:04 PM
Another country heard from ! ! !
John Doe January 20, 2014 at 11:40 AM
Paultard?? Common people, lets leave the Town Manager out of this :-)
