Several Candidates File For Town Office During Snowstorm

Chelmsford has been hit by approximately half-a-foot of snow on Thursday, but that hasn't stopped several candidates from filing on the first day of nominations for the upcoming town election on April 1.

In the race to fill Jim Lane's expiring seat on the Board of Selectmen, Bob Joyce has filed.

Joyce, who ran last year and was once a Selectman several years ago, told the Chelmsford Patch that there are "several things going on right now he would like to be a part of."

Lane signified recently that he will not run again.

Additionally, Patch has received word that incumbent Al Thomas has filed nomination papers and incumbent Town Moderator Richard DeFreitas and former Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee chairman Jon Kurland have pulled papers for the Town Moderator race.

The last day to obtain nomination papers is Feb. 7.

Additionally, Town Meeting Representative Louis Marino has announced he will be running as a Libertarian for the State Representative in the Second Middlesex District, currently held by Jim Arciero (D-Westford).

Patch will have more on these races and other upcoming news from the town election over the next few days.
