Governor Patrick Honors Chelmsford Lifeguards
Chelmsford's Dominic and Maria Russo joined 31 other lifeguards from across the state to be praised for their exceptional service.
Governor Patrick honored two lifeguards from Chelmsford as part of a ceremony that honored Department of Conservation and Recreation lifeguards who provided exceptional service during the summer of 2013.
Chelmsford's Dominic Russo and Maria Russo joined 31 other lifeguards from across the state for praise from Patrick and other members of his administration.
“These lifeguards’ outstanding efforts to keep our people safe deserve special recognition,” said Governor Patrick. “I hope today serves as a fitting expression of how thankful we are for the work lifeguards do to keep our beaches and pools safe.”
During the 2013 season, DCR lifeguards performed CPR and lifesaving resuscitation on seven individuals across the state and also saved a potential drowning victim with a spinal/neck injury.
“As a former lifeguard, I understand the challenges these lifeguards face every day,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan. “Whether it’s your first day on the job or the last day of summer, you never know when your training will be called into action to help save someone’s life.”
In 2013, DCR hired 677 lifeguards across the state.
