Police Apprehend Assault Suspect After Chase In Woods Near Billerica Border

Joseph Sherod Cannon of Lowell arrested and charged on three counts relating to alleged harassment and alleged assault.

Joseph Sherod Cannon, 22 of 94 Rock St. in Lowell was arrested on charges of alleged assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon and alleged telephone harassment following a chase through the woods near the border of Billerica on Wednesday night.

According to Chelmsford Police Lieutenant Dan Ahern accounts of nearby residents, police were on the scene near 6:30 p.m. to address an incident between Cannon and a known acquaintance 

Cannon was found in the area near 9:30 p.m., upon which point he fled into nearby woods. 

There he was chased by five Chelmsford police officers, the Chelmsford Police K9 Unit, and assisting officers from Billerica.

Cannon was apprehended just over the Billerica town line, and was arraigned on Thursday morning in Lowell District Court. 

Currently he is being held without bail, with a scheduled court date of Oct.17.
