A number of towns around Middlesex County have been listed among the "50 safest communities in Massachusetts."

Chelmsford, however, was not among them.

The Safewise.com list, released last week, highlighted the low crime rates and other local programs of surrounding communities. Sudbury earned the top spot on the list.

Closest to Chelmsford on the list was Westford, which came in at No. 15 and was described as a "wonderland of natural beauty. Dotted with apple orchards, sprinkled with lakes and boasting more than 2,000 acres of conservation land, you’ll never tire of Westford’s stunning landscape."

Westford features a violent crimes per 1,000 residents rate of .49, with a property crimes per 1,000 rate of 7.15.

Also among the nearby towns ranked by Safewise.com was Lexington at No. 14, Concord at No. 30 and Groton at No. 32.

Do you think Chelmsford should have been included on the list? How safe do you feel in Chelmsford? Let us know with comments below.

I feel very safe here in Chelmsford. I believe our Town has a very well trained & knowledgeable Police force. And I feel they do deal with a lot more crime than other towns due to bordering Lowell. The Police should be payed a higher rate of pay than they are getting. I like the fact they have a K-9 unit, I recall a few yrs ago while I was working 3rd shift I was woken up by my dog alerting me something was wrong, when I went to check on it I found someone trying to break into my house. I called 911 and I could not believe how fast the Police dept was at my house, with a K-9 unit. Awesome job ! and because of this incident I give the Police in Chelmsford a score of 10 in my book and feel very safe.
