Chelmsford Man to Register as Sex Offender, Serve Time in Jail Following Guilty Plea

On Wednesday, Iain Springer of Chelmsford pleased guilty to two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old.

A Lowell District Court judge sentenced Chelmsford resident Iain Springer to six months in jail, probation and sex offender registry after he pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years old.

The Lowell Sun reported on Springer's Wednesday plea, which alleges that from 2009 to 2012 the Chelmsford resident inappropriately touched a young girl on the thigh and buttocks.

Following the plea, Springer was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison with six months to serve. The balance of the sentence is suspended for two years during which Springer will be placed on probation with strict guidelines, according to The Sun.
