Chelmsford Man Arrested Hiding in Leominster Brook After Fleeing Police

Massachusetts State Police arrested Thomas Laport after he allegedly drove over a traffic island.

Massachusetts State Police arrested a Chelmsford man who they allegedly found hiding in a brook after he fled from police.

Police said that at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Trooper David Bergeron was on patrol on Route 2 in Leominster when he attempted to pull over a Dodge Ram pick up truck.

As Bergeron approached the vehicle, the operator allegedly drove over a nearby traffic island in an effort to avoid the officer.

Not long after the incident, Bergeron found the same truck on Mohawk Drive in Leominster. He noted the vehicle had damage consistent with that done to a guardrail and nearby signs.

Police then located Thomas Laport, 24, of Chelmsford, hiding in Monoosnoc Brook.

Laport was arrested and charged with failure to stop for police, no inspection sticker, two outstanding warrants, leaving the scene of property damage, operating after license suspension, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
