Chelmsford Man Arrested for Role in Alleged Tewksbury Armed Assault

The pair were arrested following a Sunday incident outside Staples in Tewksbury.

A Chelmsford man and Billerica woman were each arrested for an alleged attempted armed robbery that took place in Tewksbury on Sunday evening.

Tewksbury Police Chief Timothy Sheehan announced on Monday that Erica Marsh, 25, of 14 Nickerson Drive, Billerica, and John Torres, 27, of 82 Brick Kiln Road, Apt. 7305, Chelmsford, were each arrested and charged with conspiracy and armed assault with the intent to rob.

Police said that on Sunday at 5:20 p.m., Tewksbury officers were called to the area of Staples on Main Street where it was reported that a woman had attempted to rob another woman in the parking lot.

The caller told dispatch that an attacker, who police allege was Marsh, struggled with the alleged victim in an attempt to steal her pocketbook. According to police, the woman clung to her pocketbook and yelled for help as good samaritans rushed in to help.

Marsh then allegedly fled on foot, police said, getting into a vehicle that was operated by Torres. Officers said that witnesses obtained the license plate number on the car, leading to the arrest of the pair in Billerica shortly after the incident occurred.

Both suspects were scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Monday.
