Chelmsford Man Arrested and Injured After Allegedly Shoplifting, Jumping Wal-Mart Fence

An arrest does not indicate a conviction in these excerpts from the Tewksbury Police Department.

Tewksbury Police transported a Chelmsford man to an area hospital and arrested him after he was injured while fleeing the scene of an alleged shoplifting incident.

According to the Tewksbury police log, on Wednesday at 5:59 p.m. loss prevention at Wal-Mart reported that a man had just used a knife to cut open a cell phone case.

The man allegedly removed the phone from the packaging. Police were called to the scene looking for a white male in a gray t-shirt and orange shorts.

Police responded and requested an ambulance for the suspect, who may have sprained his ankle while jumping a fence.

Following the incident, officers arrested Kevin M. Chappie, 34, of 148 Gorham Street, Chelmsford. He was transported to Saints Medical Center under arrest and charged with shoplifting by concealing.
