Chelmsford Man Indicted by Grand Jury in Child Rape Case

The charges of Trinidad Atencio, 55, of 1 Smith St., have been dismissed due to lack of prosecution.

Chelmsford resident  of Chelmsford has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of child rape and possession of child pornography.

Earlier this week charges were dismissed in Lowell District Court due to "lack of prosecution," according to the judge, as Atencio had been unable to post the $25,000 bail and was in jail waiting for a probable cause hearing or indictment. However the District Attorney's office confirmed Atencio has been indicted and will still face the charges.

The District Attorney's Office said Atencio will be arraigned next week, possibly Wednesday, in Lowell district court.
