Recycle pickup

Did anyone else's street get skipped in today's recycle pickup?  Was it due to the weather?  Or did the schedule change?

The town website, http://www.townofchelmsford.us/index.aspx?NID=200 says to call IPR for missed pickups. I did that yesterday. When I found all the bins on the street still out today, I called the town office. The voicemail recording says to call the new provider, Waste Management - e.g., the town website hasn't been updated yet. (I also noticed that the recycling calendar hasn't been updated.) I called Waste Management and their recording said they were experiencing high call volumes, and to try their website (wm.com). I went there and reported that no one has been by to pick up any bins on our street. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I hope someone from the town can update the town website.

I never heard back from Waste Management. However, they did pick up the recycles today. I think this is what happened - when we moved to this street, 20+ years ago, we were given a red bin because the Recycle office's "master list" had our street as a "red" street. It didn't take long to discover the pickup company believed we were a "blue" street. They, and subsequent companies (I assume over 20 years, there have been more than one) have always been consistent. Some years ago, I was talking to someone in the town recycle office and mentioned that their list was "wrong". I was told the list was going to be fixed. My theory is that it wasn't, and so the town gave Waste Management the "wrong" list. In summary, after 20 years, the list is now right. :-)

For the last 25 years I have been one of those people that put my chairs in front of St. Mary's. I have a large extended family who gather together there every 4th to watch various members run the race. We started sitting there when we volunteered with a little fruit and water stand St. Mary's had years ago. My dad had built gazebos that were auctioned off to support the Youth Ministries trip to Habitat for Humanity. There is no shade and we don't use their bathrooms if they are even open. I never put out my chair until the last Sunday mass before the parade is over. I put them out as soon as possible after. It is tradition. It is a couple of days. It is not "competition for a good seat". It is that friends and family know that every 4th of July we'll be in the same spot! I hope that chairs on a parade route a few days early is the biggest concern people have in life! :) See you next July 4...or the 1st!
