Jack Campbell, 84

John Edward “Jack” Campbell, of Chelmsford and former longtime resident of Acton, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Genesis Westford House.  He was the beloved husband of Anne Elizabeth (Halloran) Campbell, with whom he would have celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary in April.

He was born in Cambridge on February 26, 1930, and was a son of the late Edward J. and Mary E. (Drum) Campbell.  He was a graduate of Boston College High.   He was also a graduate of Boston College and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jack served his country in the United States Navy.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed in the Frigidaire division of General Motors in Ohio.    Prior to that, he had been employed as a marketing officer for the Government of Ontario Canada,   Earlier in his career he was employed by EG&G in Boston, and Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam, NH.

A gifted singer, Jack had been in several barbershop quartets and chorus’s through the years, including the Sounds of Concord and the Saratoga Racing City Chorus.  He was a proud member of SPEBSQSA (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America).  He was also a member of SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives).

He was a passionate life-long Red Sox fan. He also enjoyed the Bruins and Patriots.  He loved to perform and listen to music. Jack traveled widely for work and pleasure, he most enjoyed spring training in Florida and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.  Over the course of ten years he traveled extensively to perform in Barbershop competitions.  He enjoyed time in Maine playing baseball, swimming at York Beach, and spending time with his family and friends.

Of course, above all he treasured his time with his wife Anne, six children, and ten grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his six children, John Campbell, Jr. and his wife Iryna of Berwick, ME, Jeffrey Campbell of Nashua, NH, Mary DeLeo and her husband Fran of Beverly, MA, Nancy Cossette and her husband James of Milford, MA, Alison Tobin and her husband Jack of Acton, MA, and Tim Campbell of Fairfax, VA; ten grandchildren, Gavin, Evan, Cameron, Cody, Daniel, Kyle, Graeme, Sean , Maeve, and Daniel; sister-in-law, Rita J. Clark of Sudbury, MA; a brother-in-law, Albert J. Nau of Framingham, MA; sister-in-law, Barbara Campbell of York, ME; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by James and Rita Campbell, Mary and Richard Ryan, Margaret and John Clarke, and Joseph Campbell, Sheila Nau, Robert Clarke and Arlene Bevilaqua.
