Late Chelmsford Man Was Member of Historical Society

George R. Dana moved to Chelmsford in 1965 after graduating from Lowell High School in 1944 as valedictorian.

The following is an obituary courtesy of Blake Funeral Home.

George R. Dana of Chelmsford and formerly of Lowell died June 20, 2014 at the Westford House. 

Born in Lowell on December 17, 1926, he was the son of the late G. Russell Dana and Leslie (Pullen) Dana and had lived in Lowell until 1965 at which time he moved to Chelmsford. He graduated from Lowell High School as valedictorian in 1944. He graduated from Amherst College in 1950. George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. 

He was a trustee of the Lowell Cemetery, Horn Home, Children’s Home, and a lifelong member of Christ Church United of Lowell. He was a member of the Whistler House, LIRA, Lowell Historical Society, and the Chelmsford Historical Society. He liked mountain climbing in New Hampshire, the Alps, and in the western states. He traveled to China, Tibet, Thailand, and Nepal. 

George taught chemistry and biology at Dracut High School from 1964 until 1984. 

He is survived by a brother Edgar P. Dana and a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Watt) Dana; his nephew, Gifford Wilcox and his wife Marty; his nieces, June (Dana) Medina and her husband Vinicio Medina, and Gail (Wilcox) Catalano and her husband David; and the wife of his late nephew Gregory Dana, Marcia Dana. George was also the great uncle to Adam, Sara, Anne, Evan, Abigail, Megan, Todd, Troy, and Tyler. 

George was the twin brother of the late Phyllis (Dana) Wilcox and uncle of the late Gregory A. Dana.
