Algimantas “Al” Simoliunas, 82

Algimantas “Al” Simoliunas, 82, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, died Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Westford House following a long illness.  He was the beloved husband of Zelvyra (Buknys) Simoliunas, to whom he was married for 56 years. 

He was born in Lithuania on January 10, 1931, and was a son of the late Stasys and Stase (Januskeviciute) Simoliunas.  He was a graduate of the University of Detroit.   

Al served his country in the United States Air Force.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an electrical engineer for over 30 years by The MITRE Corporation in Bedford. 

In his free time Al loved tending to his vegetable garden and spending time in the company of his loving family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Julia D’Auria and her husband Richard of Merrimack, NH, and Victoria Leonard and her husband Peter of Westford; three grandchildren, Christina D’Auria of Merrimack, NH and Emily Leonard and Sam Leonard of Westford; and a brother, Saulius Simoliunas and his longtime companion, Irene Welch, both of Detroit, MI.

It being his wish, there will be no visitation.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Friday at 11 o’clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd. Chelmsford.  PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al’s name to the Lithuanian newspaper “Draugas4545 W. 63rd.
