Transgender - A must read....

Good Morning Patch Readers:

For those of us that don't understand what it means to be transgender - God knows I had absolutely no idea what it meant - please read the following blog post about my now nephew - Peter.  If one reader obtains a better understanding about what transgender is and how it really "is not just a phase" then the author. my sister and Peter could make a moment in another transgender's life a little easier.

My sister made a comment to me once and I will never forget it, "of course I need to be supportive and accept what Peter wants to be, could you imagine after having the worst day of your life and you come home and think it is over and at least you can relax but really you can't relax because you can't even stand to be in your own skin or own body and for Peter those worst days happen more often than not."

So please read with an open mind.  Honestly, I wish I could say I would have been as strong and supportive as my sister has been but I will be totally honest here - I am not sure I would have been.  I mean I use to buy Peter dresses when I bought them for his older sister and say - oh please just this once can you wear it.  :( I should have just gotten him that next size of work boots he wanted as well as the farmer jeans he so enjoyed wearing.  If Peter and Jennifer and Rachel have taught me anything it would be to be accepting to people as they are and not as I would like them to be.

Here is the link to the post and when she uploads part 2 I will also share that.
