Mahoney's Trees For Troops® Christmas Tree Campaign Begins Veteran's Day

Military life can be challenging, but the holidays are even more difficult for Military members and their families, especially if they’re stationed apart. Make this holiday season a little brighter by sending military troops and their families a Christmas tree through the Trees for Troops® program.

Starting this Veteran’s Day, November 11, visit any Mahoney’s Garden Centers location to send your support by purchasing a Trees for Troops tree for $24.50. Special tree cards are available to write a note of thanks or holiday wishes to the family. New this year, you can also donate a tree through their website www.MahoneysGarden.com or simply call the Mahoney’s Trees for Troops hotline at (781) 721-4691.

“The program has become a deeply-rooted holiday tradition for Mahoney’s and the surrounding communities,” says Natalie Decker, Marketing Manager for Mahoney’s Garden Centers. “Thanks to the generous support of our patrons, we’re proud to announce that Mahoney’s has become the top contributor of trees in North America and received the Industry Spirit Award this past summer from the Trees for Troops program.”

According to Decker, Mahoney’s donated 1,500 trees last year. “We hope to top that number this year and reach our goal of 2,000 trees.”

The program touches many lives. The simple gesture of buying a tree means much more to a military family who faces incredible challenges each day.

A previous recipient, quoted on the Trees for Troops web site, said, “My husband has been deployed for the past nine months, and should be home just in time for Christmas. Trees for Troops gave me the opportunity to bring a little Christmas cheer into my home and give my husband the best homecoming and Christmas. I hope you are able to continue this program, because sometimes it’s the little things like this that make deployment a little bit easier.”

The event ends Sunday, December 1, when Mahoney’s will collect all of the notes, cut the special six-to-eight foot sheared Balsam Fir trees fresh from their farm in Nova Scotia, and prepare them for their journey. The Trees for Troops program, in coordination with FedEx, handles the rest. In December, thousands of trees from all over the United States will be delivered to troops and families on over 60 military bases, worldwide.

This year, Mahoney’s trees will be shipped to military bases up-and-down the east coast, locally including the Coast Guard Station Chatham. Mahoney’s Garden Centers will also contribute an additional $5 for every tree sold to the Christmas SPIRIT foundation.

Visit any one of Mahoney’s eight Massachusetts locations in Winchester, Chelmsford, Tewksbury, Falmouth, Brighton, Osterville, Concord and Wayland, visit www.MahoneysGarden.com, or call (781) 721-4691 between November 11 and December 1 to donate a tree to the Trees for Troops program.

Trees come from Mahoney’s-own tree farm in Nova Scotia. They are carefully nurtured and sheared for best shape and density, then cut at the very last moment to ensure the longest lasting tree. For more information visit www.mahoneysgarden.com or call (781) 729-5900.
