New York Times Chronicles Bauman's Recovery

Chelmsford resident Jeff Bauman lost both of his legs in the Boston Marathon bombings, and the newspaper reported on his work in rehab.

A recently published in-depth New York Times story, photos and video takes readers behind the scenes and shows just how difficult the road back towards normalcy has been for Jeff Bauman, whose life was forever changed when he lost both of his legs during the Boston Marathon bombings.

The New York Times article chronicles the Chelmsford native's harrowing day when he attended the Boston Marathon to watch his girlfriend complete the race.

Bauman told the newspaper that after the bomb went off and he lay helpless on the sidewalk he thought to himself, "I'm going to die."

But thanks to the heroic efforts of those around him, Bauman lived. And as the New York Times reported, he now spends a great amount of time in hospitals and physical therapy as he continues to recover from his injuries.

Thanks to his prosthetic legs, Bauman has stood, and slowly but surely begun to walk again. But there are plenty of obstacles remaining for Bauman to overcome, and more difficult times ahead.

Still, Bauman continues to be one of the faces who epitomize "Boston Strong."
