Solarize Chelmsford Workshop

Join representatives from Solarflair, MassCEC and Chelmsford's Solar Coach, Marc Grant, on Wednesday, September 4th at the Adams Library from 6-8 pm for a Solar Workshop. The workshop agenda will include a brief presentation on the Solarize Mass program as well as both one-on-one and small group discussions on a variety of topics related to solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems. Please plan to attend this solar workshop if:

  • You're new to solar PV energy systems
  • You've have had some initial exposure to solar PV energy systems
  • You're interested in acquiring a solar PV energy system
  • You're in the process of acquiring a solar PV energy system, and would like to have an objective one-on-one discussion of the pros and cons of various options
  • You've already received a proposal for a solar PV energy system, and would like to review and discuss its contents and/or other options worth considering
  • Any other solar PV-related topics of interest—to you individually and/or to the group as a whole

For more information contact Marc Grant at Solarize@TownofChelmsford.us, or 978-656-1353.

Chelmsford was selected by the State on April 5, 2013 to participate in the Solarize Massachusetts program. In 2012 this program helped 749 residents and businesses in 17 towns to install solar photovoltaic (PV) technology to generate clean, renewable electricity.  To encourage participation in the program, discounted “tiers” of pricing will be offered based on the number of enrollees. During 2012 participating customers were able to purchase solar electricity systems for 20% less than the statewide average price.

Chelmsford is partnering with Carlisle for this program. This partnering should allow us to reach the highest levels of discounts by combining our purchasing power! Earlier this year, we had a televised public event (“Solar 101”) to explain the program details and receive input from our residents and businesses, followed by several additional outreach events designed to describe the program, introduce our Installer and help folks start the process of signing up for assessment and installation.

Solarize Massachusetts is part of an effort to reach Governor Patrick's goal of 250 megawatts (MW) of solar power installed state-wide. In addition to a marketing grant, the State is providing Chelmsford and Carlisle with its technical expertise to demystify the Solar PV process for our residents, and its experience with PV Installers to ensure we obtain a reputable contractor with favorable pricing. As a result of the Solarize Mass program and other incentives, the state is close to reaching its goal – with 243 MW of solar electricity installed to date, the equivalent of powering 38,000 homes!

For more information, or to sign up for email alerts of upcoming news and events, or to volunteer your help with community outreach, please contact Marc Grant, Chelmsford’s Solar Coach, at Solarize@townofchelmsford.us
or 978-656-1353. Chelmsford’s solar volunteers need the most help in connecting with residents or local organizations, but also with event planning, “tabling” educational info, and developing media content including artwork and writing through the end of the program, September 30, 2013.
