A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Massachusetts through 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said at 8:17 p.m. that a thunderstorm capable of producing damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour was in Boston headed northward at 55 miles per hour.
The weather service said that severe thunderstorms produce damaging winds and large hail plus deadly lightning and torrential rain. It was recommended that anyone in the path of the storm get into safe shelter such as a sturdy building or in a vehicle. The weather service has also issued a warning that if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Drivers should be also be alert for flooded roads, the weather service said.
