Woman Hopes to Revolutionize Construction Industry With Networking Site

A local woman has invested more than $100,000 into the networking site.

A Chelmsford woman is looking to revolutionize the construction industry, creating a networking website she believes will provide major assistance to contractors, in turn stimulating the local economy.

Jane Newhouse is the co-owner of remodeling company Superior Kitchens and Baths where she was rated among the top contractors in Boston two years in a row by Angie’s List.

Because of the fluid nature of the construction industry, Newhouse saw a need and invested more than $100,000 to create a networking website called OurStimulus.com that she said will solve major issues among contractors.

“Bringing all Massachusetts contractors together will create a force to be reckoned with,” Newhouse said.

The website will provide the opportunity for companies to locate employees and subcontractors who are available in their area. The site uses a new technique that will allow employers to share their employees during times of year when business is slow. In addition, members are able to review others on the site.

Through these reviews, Newhouse said contractors can rate their experiences with town inspectors, rating them on their responsiveness, punctuality, availability, attitude and knowledge.

“We thought inspector reviews were necessary since every contractor can attest to the fact that every town inspector has their own spin on what they consider to be code,” said Newhouse. “It is really difficult for those of us in the trades to remember what each inspector wants and lots of time and money is lost in the process of trying to figure it out.”

New Jersey development firm Hudson Horizons worked with Newhouse to develop the website. Woburn’s McLane Law Firm is assisting her in gaining a patent for the new technology as well as assuring that it follows Massachusetts state laws and regulations.

“We just launched this month and the response has been amazing,” said Newhouse. “I am so excited about what this network is going to do for all the hardworking people in the trades. We deserve some relief.”
