Stop & Shop Removes Crackers After Salmonella Concerns

Late July Organic Snacks issued a recall for organic mini peanut butter sandwich crackers.

 

Stop & Shop has removed organic mini peanut butter sandwich crackers because of possible salmonella contamination after a recall by Late July Organic Snacks. 

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration:

The following products, with sell by dates of May 19, 2013 through July 11, 2013, are included in this recall:

  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400070, 5 oz.
  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400071, 1.125 oz.
  • Late July Organic Snacks Mini Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, UPC 89044400072, 9 oz.

No illnesses have been reported to date. Customers who have purchased the product should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Stop & Shop for a full refund.

Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. Salmonella infections can be life‐threatening, especially to those with weak immune systems, such as infants, the elderly and persons with HIV infection or undergoing chemotherapy. The most common manifestations of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within eight to 72 hours. Additional symptoms may be chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days.
