Updated Thursday at 1:05 p.m.: According to the Chelmsford town website, trash collection is on schedule Thursday and will not be impacted by the snow.

Chelmsford High School athletic events, however, are effected by the storm. All practices and games set for Thursday have been canceled.

Original Story: The snowstorm headed toward New England will likely make travel treacherous on Thursday, with snow falling in the morning and possible freezing rain hitting the roads by the evening commute.

The National Weather Service is predicting 5-9 inches of snow for Chelmsford falling by sunset.

Snow should begin Thursday morning and change over to sleet and freezing rain on Thursday afternoon and evening. Winds will be 11 to 16 mph with gusts up to 30 mph so power outages are possible.

After nightfall, snow and sleet accumulations could reach one or two inches. Rain, freezing rain, and sleet are predicted to hit Chelmsford until around 3 a.m.

Check back with this article throughout the day for any updates on closings and how the storm is impacting Chelmsford as they become available.
