Overnight Closure Starts Monday at Chelmsford Exit Due to Damage Done by Over Height Truck

Delays are likely and drivers are asked to seek alternate routes where possible.

Late night drivers on I-495 looking to exit in Chelmsford will have to find an alternate route starting Monday.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced recently that Monday through Friday from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., Exit 35C from I-495 North to the Lowell Connector Inbound will be closed to allow work crews to repair eight bridge beams that were struck and damaged by an over height truck.

In addition, the exit will be closed during the same hours Monday nights through Thursday nights from May 18 to June 20.

Traffic in the area will be detoured from the Exit 35C ramp to Route 3 North to Exit 31 for Route 110 eastbound, then right onto Industrial Ave., then left onto the Lowell Connector Inbound.

"MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, to avoid delays," the announcement said. "Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect some delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone."

The work being conducted in Chelmsford is being done as a part of the MassDOT's Accident Recovery Program.
