Karate Event Raises Nearly $3,000 for Skate Park Repairs

A total of 60 kickers and a variety of businesses combined to raise the money that will help repair a local skate park.

Chelmsford families and local businesses combined to raise nearly $3,000 over the weekend during a fundraiser for skate park repairs.

Alpha Martial Arts Studio in North Chelmsford's Vinal Square hosted Night of 1,000 Kicks on Saturday, raising $2,825 during its annual event.

Proceeds from this year's event will be used to make repairs at the Chelmsford Skate Park, which organizers described as dangerous and inviting injury.

Center Sports, Chelmsford Copy & Secretarial, Body Wise Muscular Therapy, Hannaford's, Sassy Giraffe Designs, and Erika DeAlmeida's Mary Kay were the sponsors for the event, which brought together 60 kickers.

Throughout the event, instructors taught a variety of techniques, stopping at every 100 kicks to recognize a sponsor.

Alpha Martial Arts is also currently gathering gift certificates for a raffle basket, themed "All Things Vacation," to be raffled off in May.

Anyone who would like to donate a gift certificate is invited to call (978) 251-1331. Proceeds from the raffle will also go towards the Chelmsford Skate Park renovations.
