McCarthy Student Chase Boles Finishes 8th in the State Geography Bee

On Friday, April 4th, 100 students from around the state of Massachusetts competed in the National Geographic Geography Bee hosted by Worcester Academy.

On Friday, April 4th, 100 students from around the state of Massachusetts competed in the National Geographic Geography Bee hosted by Worcester Academy.  Chase Boles, a 6th grader from McCarthy Middle School, and John Lambert, a repeat Parker Middle School champion, represented Chelmsford.  Students were divided into groups of 20 to compete in the first round.

Each student was posed 8 questions related to states, regions, physical features, location and geographic phenomena. John Lambert performed extremely well, answering all but one question correctly.  26 out of the 100 students responded correctly to all 8 questions, creating the need for a tie-breaker round.  When the students returned from this round, 10 students were left to compete in the final round.  Chase Boles was among the top 10.  Overall, Chase finished 8th in the state.  Congratulations to John and Chase for their excellent performances.  We are all looking forward to Bee season next year!
