CHS Speech and Debate Team members are going to National Tournaments

Three members of the CHS Speech and Debate Team have earned slots at different national tournaments.  

This May Lucas Muratore and Manasi Danke are attending the Catholic Forensics League National Tournament in Chicago.  Lucas will be participating in Oral  Interpretation, based on his dramatic interpretation of “Submarine” by Joe Dunthrone.  Manasi will be participating in Oratorical Declamation, based on her presentation of Malala Yousafzai’s (the young girl from Pakistan who was shot by the Taliban) speech to the United Nations.  

Also in May Erin Phillips will be attending the NIETOC: National Individual Events Tournament of Champions at Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, MN.  The National Individual Events Tournament of Champions will bring the nation's best and brightest students and teachers in Oral Interpretation and Oratory together to participate in a Tournament of Champions.

The CHS Speech and Debate Team is hosting the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League Debate Finals at CHS on March 29th.  
Over three hundred debaters are expected to attend the tournament – participating in Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Public Forum Debate.   Besides members of the MSDL, members of the Boston Urban Debate League will also compete.   

Members of the CHS Speech and Debate Team win awards for their performances at the last regular season Speech and Debate tournament at Needham HS.

  • Peter Breitweiser and James Fuschetti won 1st Place in Due Interpretation
  • Peter Breitweiser won 2nd Place in Freeze Improv
  • Mrudula Gagdil won 2nd Place in Sales Improv
  • Mrudula Gagdil won 5th Place in Impromptu Speaking
  • Erin Phillips won 5th Place in Mixed Duo
  • Samuel Weitzen won 6th Place in Novice Extemporaneous Speaking
