Geography Bee Season

McCarthy will hold their National Geography Bee on December 4th and Parker will host theirs on December 12th.

It's Geography Bee Season! Prior to the Thanksgiving break students at both the McCarthy Middle School and Parker Middle School will take the qualifying test for the National Geography Bee. The top ten students from each school will earn an invitation to participate in the school wide Bees in December.  McCarthy will hold their Bee on December 4th and Parker will host their's on December 12th.

The National Geographic Bee is a nationwide contest for schools in the United States. The Bee is conducted in English and is open to students in grades four through eight who are not over the age of 15. The Bee is an educational outreach program of the National Geographic Society. With a first-place prize of a $25,000 college scholarship – plus other prizes totaling nearly $100,000 – the Bee is designed to encourage the teaching and study of geography. Students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools are participating in the 2012/2013 National Geographic Bee.

We are excited to provide this opportunity for our students to demonstrate their knowledge.  If you are looking for additional information on the National Geography Bee or ways in which students can prepare please visit http://www.nationalgeographic.com/geobee/.  Best of luck to all of our students!
