Image Theater of Lowell is proud to present 2011 GRAMMYNominated vocalist Judy Pancoast and pianist Gary Dixon as they bring Closer To You: A Live Tribute To The Carpenters to the beautiful new Chelmsford Center for the Arts.

Tickets $20 in advance at the CCA, On Line at mktix.com/cca, or $25 at the door

Judy and her talented back up musicians will thrill audiences  with her superb renditions of such classic hits like “Rainy Days And Mondays”, “I Won’t Last A Day Without You”, Superstar”,“We’ve Only Just Begun”, and, of course, the hit song “Close To You”, all performed  with the lush background vocals that were a signature of these  classics songs.

Pancoast was just eleven years old when her sister told her about a song she had heard on the radio, and that the girl sounded “just like you”. That was the summer of 1970, and when Judy finally heard“(They Long To Be) Close To You”, it was the beginning of a childhood adulation that lasted well into her adult years.  She became the youngest charter member of the Carpenters  Fan Club, and the music of Karen and Richard continues to move  her and  audiences  every time  she  performs.  Some of the greatest song writers of the day wrote for this talented duo… Burt Bacharach, Hal David, Paul Williams, to name a few.

Ms. Pancoast’s natural rich alto voice blends well with the material, and she brings her own unique styling to each song. Randy Schmidt, author of “Little Girl Blue: the Life of Karen Carpenter”, says this about Judy: “…her velvety voice, phrasing, and conversational delivery of a song are all products of years spent listening to the timeless recordings of The Carpenters. Her passion and joy for the material makes Judy the perfect vocalist to pay tribute”.

How many songs of today will be remembered 40 years from now?  The music of The Carpenters had a unique quality that lives on.  Celebrate a time when songwriting was king, when a song could reach that special place in your heart with lyrics that ring true.  Put down your cell phones, step away from your television sets and come experience a truly special evening of great music in the welcoming and  beautiful setting of the newly refurbished Chelmsford Center for the Arts.
