DESCRIPTION:&ldquo\;It&rsquo\;s the loneliest feeling in the world&mdash\
;to find yourself standing up when everybody else is sitting down.&rdquo
 \; -Henry Drummond\, Inherit the Wind.\nChelmsford High school&rsquo\;s
theatre department will be presenting&nbsp\;Inherit the Wind&nbsp\;on No
vember 15th\, 16th and 17th&nbsp\;at 7:00 pm at the Performing Arts Cent
er.\nInherit the Wind premiered in 1955\, debuted at Broadway&rsquo\;s N
ational Theater for two years and has been made into a few motion pictur
es. The play is a fictionalized account of the actual 1925 Scopes &ldquo
\;Monkey&rdquo\; Trial\, in which high school science teacher John T. Sc
opes was convicted for illegally teaching evolution. Many of the fiction
al characters correspond to actual historical figures including politici
an Williams Jennings Bryan and famed attorney Clarence Darrow. The autho
rs of the play took many liberties with the truth\, first by pulling the
audience&rsquo\;s heartstring by creating a love story where there was
none and then giving us a hero in the character of Bert Cates\, a man st
anding alone against the almost medieval minded town of Hillsboro\, Tenn
 essee.\nIn actuality\, the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee\, w
as written to show contempt for McCarthyism and what they believed was a
nti-intellectualism. This protest was under a safe guise since it was ba
sed on an existing trial that took place 25 years before. This show has
been a wonderful educational opportunity for Chelmsford High&rsquo\;s Th
eater students. Not only does it require extensive character research\,
it allows them to re-live history and along the way\, they may just have
learned a few things about standing up for one&rsquo\;s beliefs despite
the overwhelming influence of the crowd. Directed by Chelmsford High&rs
quo\;s Theatre Arts director Lauren Cochran\, some of the high school st
udents involved include&nbsp\;Shayan Sobhian as Henry Drummond\,&nbsp\;P
aul Turchinetz as Matthew Harrison Brady\, Christopher Torres as Bert Ca
 tes\,&nbsp\;Ben Melisi as Reverend Brown\,&nbsp\;Heather Conti-Clark as
 Rachel Brown and&nbsp\;Hannah Marden as E. K. Hornbeck.&nbsp\;
