Welcome to Walt and Ali's Realty Zone, a weekly blog by Walt Fitzgerald and Alison Ludwig. Walt and Ali are local realtors with ERA Key Realty Services.
Chelmsford has such a huge population of Scouts- 13 Boy Scout Units- includes Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews and almost 60 Girl Scout Troops from Daisies all the way to Ambassadors. These units, with members ranging from kindergarteners through adult hood, are such a benefit to our town in so many ways.
I have been involved in Scouting with all four of my children and have seen first-hand all the good that comes from such wonderful people banding together to make a difference in their community. I have met so many friends, even my best friends, through the Scouting community and have seen my children and many, many others grow into such wonderful people, with a great value system.
Scouting teaches such a great moral system. Both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts strive to teach the children to do their best; to instill in them how important honesty, trustworthiness and loyalty are; to be brave and courageous; to help others at all times. Our Scouts are strong- in mind and spirit. They are better than most at public speaking, trying new things outside of their comfort levels, in their survival skills. They are committed to public service and to helping others. These qualities, if adopted by everyone, would make the world such a great place to live and we can see the results of these Scouting qualities everywhere around us in the town of Chelmsford.
If you look around, the positive evidence of our Scouts is all around. You will see them helping at Blood Drives for the Red Cross, helping their Sponsors-often local churches- with their gardening or grounds, holding collections of books, blankets, birthday supplies for children in need. Maybe you'll see a Girl Scout fostering a bunny while trying to find it a forever home, or you will see a Boy Scout working on his Eagle Project by building a much needed shed for his church, or a Girl Scout building a storage area in the High School for the band equipment. Maybe you will find a door hanger on your door asking for you to leave a non-perishable food donation outside of your doorway on a specific date to help feed the hungry, or Scouts asking for donations towards care packages for our soldiers. Very soon, you will be seeing our Cub Scouts out putting flags on our veteran's graves in honor of Memorial Day.
All of these projects are very valuable to our town, making it a better place to live and provides a strong sense of community. I look forward to watching these young people grow into adults- into our future leaders and the new volunteer army that helps to make our town great!
I have attached some pictures from across some of my scouting years. I hope you enjoy them. Do you belong to a Troop, Pack or Crew in Town? Do you have special memories of Scouts yourself? Feel free to share them here!

I agree with you Ali & Walt. The many Scout group and activities in town help make Chelmsford one of the best places to live in the country. The Cub Scouts...Boy Scouts...and Explorer Scouts were a very big part of my life as I was growing up, and the many things I learned as a Scout are with me now.
