Golnik's On Again, Off Again Relationship with AIG

BOSTON - Today, the Massachusetts Democratic Party highlighted new evidence showing Republican congressional candidate Jonathan Golnik is once again trying to keep voters in the dark about his past work as an executive at AIG, the disgraced Wall Street bailout recipient.

Until just days ago, Golnik described himself as having had a “senior role” at AIG in a profile on the website of MatadorFX, a currency trading firm where Golnik is a co-owner and principal. Some time in the past few days, the website description was scrubbed,  deleting the word “senior” to describe Golnik's association with controversial Wall Street corporation.

Screen captures taken on August 8, 2012 and September 10, 2012 document the switch and are available upon request.

In a recent debate on August 13th in Lowell, however,  Golnik talked up his time at AIG, boasting, “I certainly was a leader at the [sic] when I worked in the financial sector, I ran a desk, in um, at my firm, AIG.”

During his criminal trial for DUI, Golnik told the court that he "was hired by AIG Trading to handle emerging market currencies" before he was transferred to open an office in London, where he stayed for three years.

“During the primary election campaign, Jon Golnik loved to brag that he was a big shot at AIG, but now that he's pitching to a wider audience, it's looking like he would rather folks forget about his work for one of the corporations that nearly brought down our economy” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Executive Director Clare Kelly. "The truth is that Golnik opened the London AIG office where the seeds of the financial meltdown were sewn and he held a leadership position in the Wall Street giant."

Did you hold a senior role at AIG…

6-28-2001, Sentencing Memorandum, Cambridge District Court:
“…he was hired by AIG Trading to handle emerging market currencies…He eventually was transferred to London to open an office there, and remained there for three years before returning to Boston.”- Jay Carney, attorney for Mr. Golnik, filing Memorandum on Mr. Golnik’s behalf.

7-25-2012, Matadox FX Website Biography (prior to alteration):
“Jon later advanced on to senior roles at State Street Bank and AIG Trading Group…”

8-13-2012, Lowell Sun/UMASS Lowell Republican Debate:
“I certainly was a leader at the [sic] when I worked in the financial sector, I ran a desk, in um, at my firm, AIG.”

 …Or not?

9-30-2010, Haverhill Gazette:
‘"Let me set the record straight," Golnik said. "A few years out of school, and more than a decade ago, I worked for three years as an entry level foreign currency trader helping others convert their money into U.S. dollars, and I assure you ... the big guys upstairs didn't walk down to my desk on the floor to ask my opinion on how to run the company…"’

10-1-2010, Eagle Tribune:
‘It was a job I had only a few years out of school," said Golnik. "I had no one reporting to me. I didn't even have an assistant."
…"I didn't run a group," said Golnik. "I was a group of one, myself, and I had layers and layers above me."’

10-26-2010, Lowell Sun:
‘"I was the low man on the totem pole," Golnik told The Sun. "I had layers and layers above me."’

At least Golnik was holding down a job...

What was Ms Tsongas doing – when she wasn't protesting the Vietnam War and saying awful things about soldiers?

She thinks we've forgotten?

If Golnik can't be honest with voters on this, what can we expect from him if he's elected? He should stop shading the truth and let the chips fall where they may. Some people (like Iron Mike) won't care about his past, some will, and that's what makes an election.

Once again Mister Combs – you are totally misstating fact.

I've written EXTENSIVELY about Mister Golnik – you can google it.

But Golnik on his WORST DAY is 100% better than Niki Tsongas.

Tsongas is a life-long anti-military [don't believe that puff about her Daddy] zeallot who protested the Vietnam War and like John Kerry - called soldiers murderers.

A few years ago she went on a junket to Iraq - NEVER spoke to an Iraqi OR a combat soldier. Then came and gave 'town halls' calling for 'a safe passage home'. Oh, and she was 'just facinated with the gold carpet tacks' in Karzai's office. She's a complete airhead.

She is a life-long socialist, pretending in recent years to be 'a Democrat' – to get elected. ANY member of Congress who votes 97% with Pelosi is a socialist!

So I'll take Golnik [and his warts] over Tsongas and her socialist yearnings – ANY DAY!

And you Young Man – should do some basic research before flapping your cookie eater or getting on your computer.

Believe what you want, Golnik should tell the truth and let the voters decide. That's simply being an adult.

Your article, "Jon Golnik Disqualifies Himself", was quite a read. None of that has really changed, has it?

What exactly have the Democrats done for those of us believe in hard work, financial responsibility and saving accounts. It is my opinion that there are people who need assistance but does that include total Government support for a irresponsilble life style for illegal immigrants and false tax claims plus second generations of welfare peoples? Obama is doing his untmost to create a society of equals ......which really means if you have money etc it is the Democrats right to conviscate it ......and give it to who????Warren and tsongus will vote "follow the leader Obama" as any elected Democrat will do.......and as illustrated by the above makes it appears the past transgressions of considerable years are the most important issues of the day. Obama is leading this country to Big Government control over Unions with ultimate government control, Big Bank under more and more stringent Government regulations and Big government cotrolled business with outragious taxation to support all these and continue to give Legislators and their choosen few a unlimited financed lifestyle similar to Obamas current spendings of money over 2 billion dollars of taxyers monies. Here we are... no new jobs....overwhelming debt....gas prices near $4.00 a gallon.....Tax increases , both local and federal throwing aside the Christion beliefs of our forefathers.....and its only going to get worse...
