This year, many of Chelmsford’s band, chorus, and orchestra students have worked diligently with their teachers to prepare for state-level music events, including the MMEA’s Northeast District, Junior District, and All-State Festivals. The talent and drive of these students is consistently demonstrated through the sheer numbers of students who are accepted each year, and this year has produced another crop of successful auditions!
In the fall, many of our CHS musicians auditioned with over 1,100 music students from schools across the Northeastern part of Massachusetts to participate in the 2013 Northeast Senior District Music Ensembles. Chelmsford is proud to have had 19 CHS students chosen to participate in this event.

In addition to these 19 students being accepted, students who received a score in the top 50% of their area were eligible to audition for the MMEA All-State Ensembles. Those students selected for the All-State Ensembles will perform at Symphony Hall in Boston at the end of March. This year, the following students will represent Chelmsford at the Massachusetts Music Educators All-State Concert at Symphony Hall:
Dorothy Chung, CHS Orchestra (Director Kate Comeau)
Elizabeth Sperry, CHS Band (Director Matt Sexauer)
Besides the MMEA Northeast District and All-State competitions that are only open to high school students, Chelmsford is lucky to have students from Chelmsford High School, McCarthy Middle School and Parker Middle School in Chelmsford selected to participate in the MMEA Northeast Junior District Festival!
After auditions of approximately 1,000 students from more than 95 public and private schools held in January, a select number of students from grades seven through nine were selected to participate in this prestigious Massachusetts Music Educators Association event. The program is offered by the MMEA as an enrichment opportunity providing a musical experience to talented young people. The students were selected to perform in the Junior District Concert Band, Orchestra, Girls Chorus and Boys Chorus. They will rehearse with guest conductors and then perform in a concert to be held at Lowell High School in Lowell, MA on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
