Whole Foods Announces Recall of Salmon
The recall is due in part to fears over Listeria contamination.
Whole Foods Market is announcing a recall cold smoked and sliced Whole Catch Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon (UPC:99482 40880 0) in 18 states, including Massachusetts.
The recall is due in part to fears the item may have been contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes, an organism which can cause a sometimes fatal infection in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems as well as high fever, severe headaches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea in healthy individuals and miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
No illnesses have been reported from the product to date.
Whole Foods is requesting that customers should dispose of the product in the garbage and wash their hands immediately to avoid any potential cross-contamination. Full refunds will be given at the store.
