Who Would You Like to See Run For Town Office This Spring?

The first day to get on the ballot is today, who would you like to see run?

Town Election Day is only four months away as of today, and as of this morning residents can pull nomination papers for the following seats...

  • Board of Selectmen (two seats, three years)
  • School Committee (two seats, three years)
  • Library Trustee (two seats, three years)
  • Board of Health (one seat, three years)
  • Planning Board Associate Member (two seats, three years)
  • Constable (one seat, three years)
  • Chelmsford Housing Authority (one seat, five years)
  • Cemetary Commission (one seat, three years)
  • Town Meeting Member (six seats in each precinct for three years except for 3 and 8, where one of the six is for two years to fill a vacancy)

We'll be checking down at Town Hall to see who's signed up each week, in the meantime, who do you think should run?

Roland Van Liew for Board of Selectmen. If he does run expect current Selectmen to coerce certain well known people in town, like talk show hosts, to run against him because they know he can easily defeat one of two incumbents.

Look forward to hearing more about you Louis. RVL had made some mistakes, but is certainly well qualified.Carmen seems to be a very nice guy. He did vote no on the fire station from what I understand, which is a positive in my mind. I also heard that he doesn't have intentions of running unless we don't get other qualified candidates. Not sure who/what he deems as qualified? Maybe the original poster above is correct?

Hello SaltFlats,

First I would like to thank you for the "nice guy" comment. :-)

Second, I am not waiting to judge any particular candidate before deciding if I would run or not. As you may know, I am already a Library Trustee and I enjoy that position very much. I would have to give that up if I was elected as a Selectman as you can't hold two elected townwide offices at the same time. So that would be a consideration.

In addition to that position, I host and produce the political talk show, as you know, and I wouldn't want anything to interfere with that, as I think it's a good way to get a great deal of local political information out to the voters. We are currently in our 19th year.

I also am on the Board of Directors of the Chelmsford Histroical Society....and I'm a town meeting rep, currently in my 19th year....I have created and I manage three Chelmsford Groups on Facebook and post on at least one of them every day, about meetings, events in town, etc.

Therefore, I am currently thinking that I may best serve the residents of Chelmsford with what I am doing now, rather than as a Selectman. With the State Open Meeting Laws, etc. there are more constraints on a Selectman's communications than those which I currently have to deal with.

I hope this clarifies what my thinking is about the Selectman race. I want to see a number of people pull papers for that office, and as soon as they do I'll invite them onto my show. Thanks again.

To Salt flats If you send me an email at the email i provided and will send you back my info and what ever else you would like i have nothing to hide i just feel its time for some new blood and new ideas to come out and new active blood to come forward and be a voice for the people one who will fight for what the voters need from beacon hill i will tell you right now one of my big issues to tackle is to find out how to reuse some of the buildings that have been left vacant from business's leaving and how do we attract more to those locations and not only how to reuse them or attract more is how to keep them.

Thanks

Louis,
You may want to attend one of the Center Village Master Plan meetings as they've been discussing that very issue for that part of town. Their next meeting is January 15. There's an Economic Development Commission that meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month that could give you insight on the issues of other vacant buildings around town.
A lot of the problem is that the building owners are not real concerned about filling their vacancies. Te groups can fill you in on other issues they've been told about, and I'm sure they'd be open to suggestions.

Aah, the issue emerges...

>> buildings that have been left vacant from business's leaving

Vacant buildings, empty factories, and empty storefronts, - the hallmark of 60+ years of Democratic control of our 'Commonwealth'.

The stores went to NH, the factories went to China. Try to remember that Susan Fargo's priority was naming our 'State Cowboy' – since we're such an important beef-raising state...

Sorry you didn't get the tongue-in-cheek joke Louis.

The REAL joke was Susan Fargo [steady Girl, use the handrail] – who spent YEARS trying to get Rex Trailer named our 'Official State Cowboy' [because we're such an important beef-raising state?],...while she voted for EVERY tax increase,...thus chasing business and industry out of state.

I'd say her priorities were...a little tilted?

How about selectmen candidates that have served on other town committees? Where is this trend of folks running for selectman while plenty of committees in town could use volunteers? Also - where are you at the many public input sessions??

Could it be that we are being taxed out of existence and have inept $$ management in town? Our property taxes came in 5 times higher than estimated even with over $900K in "free cash"! At this point, we're talking about moving out as well! Even with a single tax rate, businesses are still leaving. Then look at a town like Burlington, with a split tax rate, and businesses flock there.

If we don't have a fair property tax rate we will not just lose residences too communities Show there residents the fairness they need also it goes along with why business are leaving town. As People leave the Stores and other business lose money because people have none to spend as its all going to pay the property tax.

It is "to" and "their" and "it's". Louis might not have gone to school in Chelmsford to learn grammar but I did.
