What Are Your Thoughts on Political Signs?

Primary Day's tomorrow, so today we want to ask what you think of the signs that are all over town for candidates that want your vote.

Tomorrow's Primary Day here in Chelmsford, so today we want to ask you for your thoughts on something that goes hand in hand with any election: political signs.

Recently several political signs were reported stolen, with representatives from the Sandra Martinez campaign saying the alleged signs were from their campaign.

What are your thoughts on these allegations, and what are your thoughts on signs in general? Do they help you remember a candidate on the ballot? Are they an eyesore?

And what about the town's bylaw prohibiting political signs 21 days before an election and 14 days after an election? Is it a good idea to reduce clutter? Is it unconstitutional? Is it enforceable?

Share your thoughts with us in the comments section!

I like the signs ... keeps me aware and alert about who's in the running and what party they represent. Also lets me know my neighbors thoughts, tho that is the least of my concerns. Stealing is a crime, no matter what is taken ... shame on those who would stoop so low. 21 and 14 days is reasonable ... unconstitutional or enforceable? Who knows (not me). As for clutter, a case can be made but I think the signs are all recyclable, yes?

I like the signs too....it is part of our political heritage and another way of getting people out to vote and for candidates to get name recognition. There only out a couple of weeks....vote on Thursday!

Yard signs are the best kind of patriotism: A sign of an involved voter. I don't care which candidate they are for and I don't care if they go up early. I hope they encourage people to vote.

Mike - while I agree with your sentiment, I would say that yard signs are the best sign of a democracy built on free speech. The members of our military that are willing to lay down their lives for those values are the best kind of patriotism.

I don't mind the yard signs but not cluster of signs for one candidate on non-residence road; e.g., Route 119. Are these signs recyclable?

Political signs are not really and issue for me. I have supported local officials and even some state level officials. What has been turning me off as of late, are the troves of junk mail and political telemarketing calls. I got 3 calls for barrett tonight and 5 fliers for him in my mail box. No matter how good of a man he may be, its a turn off, and due to that, he has lost one vote

I concur, and it will only get worse in the next six weeks.
Watch out for a sudden avalanche of mailings from people like Representative Tsongas telling us how much she has 'done' for the district using the franking privilege. This is the only time we hear from her office. (I repeatedly have been asking her office a question on Obamacare with no response.)
Thankfully if you have caller id, you have the option of not picking up for numbers you don't recognize.
