What Advice Would You Give Incoming High School Freshmen?

Freshman year is a tough year - what advice would you give?

As the calendar flips to August, thoughts start to turn to the first day o the new school year.

When Chelmsford High opens its doors for the school year, a brand new crop of freshmen will begin the wild, four-year (in most cases) journey that is high school.

So we pose the question -- What advice would you offer to the incoming Class of 2016?

I would say to get involved in something outside of academics, whether it be band, a social club, a sport, a volunteer activity. Also, it is important to get to know your guidance counselor and teachers. If planning to go to college, you will be need recommendations when application process starts. If struggling with a subject, ask for extra help. Don't be afraid to speak up in class-let your ideas and opinions be heard.

Consider the options. Make opportunities. These are my two bits of advice for all incoming freshmen. Whether attending Chelmsford High - or Nashoba Tech (the regional vocational high school open to all Chelmsford residents) students should pick the curriculum, the extracurricular activities, and even the friends that provide the greatest opportunity for growth and exploration. These may (or may not!) be 'the best years of your life' - but they are definitely the years that will offer the most opportunity for growth and exploration. Consider every opportunity as a option for personal and professional growth - in high school and beyond...and (one last bit of 'advice'!) enjoy each and every moment!
